LADY HAWKS SPLIT WITH RIVAL FREDERICK

LADY HAWKS SPLIT WITH RIVAL FREDERICK

On a gloomy spring Saturday this past weekend, Hagerstown softball hosted a familiar opponent in Frederick CC as the Cougars took the trek 30 minutes west to clash in a region 20, MDJUCO matchup. Boasting similar records to one another, HCC knew this would be a good test for them to see where they really were as a unit.

In the first game, the Lady Hawks were able to accumulate 9 hits but could not quite figure out how to drive them in as they fell to the Cougars by a final score of 10-2 in 6 innings. Leading the way for the Hawks was freshman captain, Morgan Gutteridge ("Buzz") who was able to collect the only 2 RBIs in the game for the Lady Hawks and went 2-3 at the plate (2 singles). Freshman third baseman, Cayleigh Laughlin had a stellar day too as she went 3-3 in the 9-hole slot and added the lone extra base hit for Hagerstown.

In the second stanza, the Lady Hawks were able to take flight as they put up 12 runs on 15 hits. Freshman centerfielder, Brooke Buhrman went 3-5 on the day and was a single shy of the cycle as she had a double, a triple, and a HR. She finished the day with 2 RBIs. Fellow freshmen, Brooklyn Deibert and Paige Vermillion also added 2 RBIs each on 4 hits combined to help lift the Hawks to a 12-11 victory in extra innings over the Cougars.

The Lady Hawks now get a much-needed break this week as they are scheduled to travel to Harford CC this coming Saturday, April 12th. The games will kick off at noon for a mid-day doubleheader.
