Lady Hawks finish 4th in the Region 20 Tournament

HCC Hawks Volleyball - Fall 2018

Hawks Volleyball finished 4th in Region 20 for the 2018 season, with an overall 14-8 (.636) record, 8-3 in conference play.  The all-freshman lineup played well at home with a record of 7-1. 

Season stats leaders included:  Outside Hitter, Kiersten Erickson with 182 kills, 20 service aces, 52 digs and 207 points scored; Libero, Alexis Schlotterbeck with 143 kills, 10 service aces, 22 solo blocks, and 178.5 points scored; Middle Blocker, Alyssa Shoemaker with 283 digs, 29, assists, 19 service aces and 124 points scored; Setter, Maddi Miller with 587 assists, 35 service aces, and 232 digs; Right Side Hitter, Grace Fogle with 140 kills, 111 digs and 162 points scored.

The Hawks faced Cecil College in the quarter-final of the Region 20 D2 tournament, held at the College of Southern Maryland, on Firday, November 2nd.  The Hawks stayed alive, by eliminating Cecil College in five sets, 3-2; 25-20, 20-25, 25-27, 25-15, 15-13.  Kierston Erickson led the team with 18 kills. Lexie Schlotterbeck had 11 kills, Alyssa Shoemaker 30 digs, and Maddi Miller 42 assists and 16 digs.

On Saturday, November 3rd, the Hawks faced number one seeded, undefeated, and 17th ranked Montgomery College in the semi-finals.  The season ended for the Lady Hawks, with a hard-fought loss to Montgomery, 0-3; 11-25, 22-25, 16-25. Emily Ernst had 5 kills, Alyssa Shoemaker had 13 digs and Maddi Miller had 10 digs.

Head coach, Ashlyn Rebok has confidence in the play of her young squad, their successes this season, and the experience they gained.  She remains optimistic about off-season recruiting and adding to an already talented group.   "It is amazing to look back at practice film from the beginning of the season and see how far we've come. The potential for this group on and off the court is limitless, and we look forward to building on the foundation we created this year.  Although results from the weekend aren't what we were hoping for, there is so much more to this team than just a score. The coaching staff is extremely proud of what the girls accomplished this season."
