Hagerstown Community College Women's Soccer has been on a roll since the season start on August 19th in Louisburg, NC. THe Hawks, (6-0-0 overall, 2-0-0 in conference), have played 4 out-of-conference matchups and 2 conference games heading into today's conference matchup in La Plata, against the College of Southern Maryland, marking the best start in program history.
The Hawks overall shot percentage is .224 with 19 goals scored so far this season. The team has 15 overall combined assists and have posted 3 shut outs.
HCC traveled to North Carolina to start the season and this past weekend played Middlesex College in Edison, NJ, winning 2-1 in regulation. Fifty seconds into the match against the Colts, Kayda Shives (4) scored on an assist by Alexis Linnety (2), marking the fastest goal scored in Hawks history. On their heals, the Colts were forced to regroup to defend subsequent Hawk attacks, and in the twelvth minute evened the score 1-1 on a goal by Gissel Chirino (6), assisted by Imani Foat (2). The half ended, tied 1-1, and the midfield battle ensued into the second half until the seventy-seventh minute where Shives scored again on an assist by Kaden Martin (34), putting the Hawks ahead 2-1, where the score remained to end the game. "It was a great weekend to play, despite our Sunday game with Brookdale Community College being rained out," commented Coach Clifton Williams. "Middlesex is a challenging team, and we found ways to play together and score when we needed to to get the win. I am so excited for our players."
After today's game at CSM, Hagerstown hosts Christendom College on Tuesday, September 26th, match time 4:00 p.m., celebrating the sophmores and their accomplishments in a pre-game ceremony.
