Hagerstown CC Women's Soccer (1-4-1) traveled to Anne Arundel CC(5-1-0) yesterday for a 3:00 p.m. match in Arnold, MD.
The Riverhawks started strong at the seventeenth minute with a goal from Cassidy Smith (#7), assisted by Ryann Brooks (#24) at the seventeenth minute mark. Smith scored again, unassisted, in the twentieth minute, building the Riverhawk's lead to 2-0 lead over the Hawks. Kenzie Livingston (#13) extended Anne Arundel's lead to 3-0 in the twenty-second minute, and to end the first half of the game.
In the second half, Hagerstown went on the attack, opening up scoring opportunities, and found from Marissa Fouke (#21) for an unassisted goal at the thirty-six minute mark. In the fifty minute mark, Mikaila Ek (#7) scored on an assist by Brianna Clever (#2), cutting Anne Arundel's lead to 3-2. Three minutes later, the Riverhawks responded with an unassisted goal by Ryann Brooks (#24). The Hawks struck back on a goal by Diana James (#9), assisted by Mikaila Ek (#7) at the sixty minute mark, with James stepping up control of the midfield throughout the match. The Hawks continued mounted pressure against the Riverhawk's goal, only to come up short with a final score of 4-3 in favor of Anne Arundel.
"When you give up three goals in the first half you are digging a hole, making it hard to come back, and that's what we saw today," commented Coach Williams. "Starting the game focused and ready and maintaining focus throughout 90 minutes gives a team confidence to execute their game plan for a positive outcome. I know this team can score three goals in a half, maybe more. The opportunity was there today, but it wasn't meant to be. We will stay positive and keep working hard, and we will see success."
"Let's Go Hawks."
