The Hawks had a slow start in their opener, on Saturday, against the Patrick Henry College Sentinels, in Purcellville, VA. The Hawks gave up a goal after the first two minutes of play, only to respond with focus and a reset of their formation, to out shoot the Sentinels six-to-one in the remainder of the first half. Trailing by one at halftime, Head Coach Clifton Williams, along with the coaching staff, worked with the team to make corrections for the remainder of the game.
Within the first minute of the second half, Marissa Fouke passed the ball backwards to Madison Milburn, who found Leah Stevens open, waiting for the ball. Stevens made a hard pass to Ava Burger who took the ball up the field, making a cross to Marissa Fouke for the score. With the game now tied, the Hawks had fourteen shots on goal and shut out Patrick Henry for the remainder of the second half. Coach Williams stated, "I am proud of this team for working hard and stepping up their game. Not bad for the first game of the season." The final score was tied, one to one.
