Records were meant to broken. And that is exactly what freshman captain, Andrea Elder, did in her inaugural season with the Lady Hawks. Two long-standing HJC/HCC records, total blocks in a single season (154) and total blocks in a single game (14), were both broken with ease by the star forward/center with two games remaining on the schedule. She then padded her stat total to bring them to an even more unreachable number of 178 for the season, including 15 blocks in the December 7th home game against College of Southern Maryland.
Both block records were previously held by Lady Hawks standout, Robin Curley, who attended HCC from 2000-2002. A former MDJUCO champion in her own right, Curley followed up her years here by continuing on to Division-1 Winthrop University on an athletic scholarship. The records had stood for 23 years until Elder's 2024-25 performance and she currently still holds the all-time blocks record with 241. That record will be squarely in the crosshairs of Elder should she elect to return for her sophomore season.
The Lady Hawks look to be in good hands next year defensively if Elder is on the floor. Opposing teams will think twice about entering the paint if big #10 is near the basket.
Congratulations to Andrea on these mighty achievements! GO LADY HAWKS!!
