In Landover, Maryland at the Prince George's County Sports and Learning Complex, HCC had their second indoor meet of the season at the Cardinal Track and Field Classic. The Hawks lined up against 15 other regional colleges and universities. With the Hawks having a good showing, one jump at the event carried a significant milestone in just the second meet of the year.
Sophomore, Josey Reineman earned 1st place in the Women's High Jump with a height of 1.61 meters (5' 31/4"). Reineman was the only athlete to jump 1.57 meters and was able to clear 1.61 meters on her third and final attempt. Winning the Women's High Jump was not the only accolade Reineman walked away with at The Cardinal Classic. With her jump of 1.61 meters she also qualified to compete in the NJCAA Indoor National Track & Field Championships. The NJCAA Championships will be held on March 3rd and 4th of this year in Topeka, Kansas at Washburn University's Indoor Athletic Facility. In the Women's Pole Vault, Mikaila Ek just missed the podium with a 2.9 meter (9' 61/4") clear, bringing her in 4th place for the event.
The men's team had a strong showing in the relays for the Cardinal Classic. Tommy Bildheiser, Dvonte Clark, Trevor Page and Ryan Rasco took 1st place in the Distance Relay Medley with a time of 10:52.59 and 2nd place in the 4x400 meters with a time of 3:38.77. Michael Kelly continues his impressive showings in his debut season of the 60 meter High Hurdles, taking 3rd place with a time of 8.83 seconds.
Next, the Hawks will be heading to the VMI Winter classic on January 27th & 28th. The VMI Winter Classic will take place at the Virginia Military Institute's Corps Physical Training Facility in Lexington, Va. This invitation is a prestigious nod, as HCC is the only Junior/Community College invited to compete at the meet.
