The Hagerstown Women's soccer team stunned the MDJUCO world on Tuesday by beating #18 DII ranked team, CCBC-Essex by a score of 3-1. This is the first time in school history that the WSOC team has beaten Essex and it did so yet again on the shoulders of star freshman forward True Benshoff. Benshoff, who is currently the DI goals and points leader in the country, added another hat trick on Tuesday evening with the help of 3 different players assisting a goal (Peyton Miller, Erika Thompson, Arial Crawford). Fellow freshman midfielder Peyton Miller leads MDJUCO in assists with 12 and continues to be a steady and calming presence at the center of the pitch. Another group of unsung heroes was the defensive back line for the game comprised of Arial Crawford, Brooklyn Burger, Erika Thompson, and Lexi Linetty with Goalkeeper Michaela Shindle in between the posts. They continue to rise to the occasion against tough opponents and they limited the scoring to only one first half goal. The Lady Hawks have a quick turnaround as they begin a slew of road trips over the next two weeks, starting on Thursday, September 19th at Penn State-Mont Alto (4pm). Let's cheer on our Lady Hawks from afar and send positive vibes as they continue their historic season.
The Hagerstown Men's team punched above its weight class today in what was one of their toughest challenges to date, losing to DII #6 CCBC-Essex by a score of 5-1. The Hawks possessed the ball evenly with the visiting Knights the entire first half and had several scoring chances that could not quite be finished. After holding them to a 1-0 score at the intermission, the Knights began to pull away with a second goal in the 52nd minute and never looked back scoring 3 more in the final 38 minutes. A silver lining in the game was a solid goal orchestrated by a corner kick from Gabe Avila which was then crossed from Carlos Pazos to a surging MJ Ribis from the defensive back line. Solid ball movement led to the goal and showed a sign of more positive things yet to come for the Hawks MSOC team. They quickly will set their sights on CCBC Catonsville on Thursday, September 19th at 6PM as they also begin a two-week road trip facing away opponents. Let's go HAWKS!!
