HAWKS COMPLETE SWEEP OF CARROLL CC

HAWKS COMPLETE SWEEP OF CARROLL CC

The Hagerstown WSOC team prevailed over the Lynx of Carroll CC in the first match of the two-game slate, beating them by a score of 3-2. The Lady Hawks were able to get on the board first when Freshman midfielder Peyton Miller fired a shot from outside the 18 over the opposing goalie's head in the 15th minute. That lead quickly diminished as the Lynx got feisty with 2 sequential goals of their own in the 22nd and 26th minutes by Haley Greenwade and Brenna Murphy to put them up 2-1 at the half. However, the Lady Hawks did not quit and started the comeback bid with another timely goal from NJCAA leading goal scorer, True Benshoff, just 5 minutes into the second half. The winning goal was then struck by Amelia Beck-Schmeider in the 67th minute from long distance on the far-right side of the pitch when she placed it only where the goalie could not get to it. The Lady Hawks continued to hang on with a solid defensive second half to keep the score locked in their favor. They will conclude their homestand next Tuesday, September 17th at 2pm against another tough conference foe, CCBC-Essex. Please consider coming out to Hagerstown Soccer Field to show your support!

The MSOC team followed the WSOC team's victory with one of their own, beating Carroll CC, 1-0. This was a back-and-forth game with many runs being made by both teams throughout all 90 minutes which led to scoring opportunities that could not be finished. After a 0-0 stalemate at the half, Hagerstown came out strong offensively and recorded 7 shots on goal, one of which was the lone score in the 71st minute from freshman winger, Max Adu. Adu sprung free on a counterattack on the right side of the field and freshman left back Randy Moran lofted a perfect ball to him. This allowed Adu to have enough space to fire a ball to the far-left post for the game winner, thus moving them to a record of 4-4 on the season. The Hawks will follow the WSOC game at 4pm next Tuesday, September 17th at home against CCBC-Essex. Please consider coming out to support the team!!
