After suffering a buzzer beating goal in Tuesday's conference loss to rival Frederick CC, it did not take long for Hagerstown Men's Soccer to get back into the win column yesterday evening, beating Anne Arundel CC 3-1. Freshman Finley Smith scored his first career goal for the Hawks just 5 minutes after the opening whistle. Assisting Smith, freshman midfielder, Ben Rankin, was the player of the night with 1 goal and 2 assists. Not only was Rankin involved in every HCC point scored on the evening, but he did so in clutch fashion, scoring the go-ahead goal himself in the 75th minute on an assist by Johann Avarca. Carlos Pazos added the security goal in the 86th minute to close the door on the Riverhawks, with a shot that squeaked through the AACC keeper's hands. In a closely contested game throughout, the Hawks outlasted the Riverhawks to improve their record to 3-3 on the season. Next up is a home matchup, September 10th at 2pm, against the highly touted Raptors of Montgomery College. To follow Hawks Men's Soccer visit https://athletics.hagerstowncc.edu/sports/msoc/index.
The Lady Hawks suffered their first loss of the season, losing to Anne Arundel CC 5-2. In what was a slow start for Hagerstown, down 3 goals in the first 20 minutes, a comeback bid was led by star freshman forward, True Benshoff. Benshoff scored 2 unassisted goals in the following 22 minutes to pull the deficit to within 1 with just over 30 minutes to play. In the end, the Riverhawks were too strong to fend off, as they were able to pull away shortly after. The Lady Hawks have a quick turnaround and will begin a 4-game homestand over the next 11 days, starting with the Colts of Middlesex College on Saturday, September 7th at 2pm.
