Hawks hold on to win thanks to Bryce Block hat trick

HCC men's soccer placed a notch in the win column on Tuesday, defeating Carroll Community College.

Scoring first, Hawks freshman forward, Amadu Jalloh (9), struck on an in-swinging corner served up by freshman midfielder, Xavier Mejia (21).  Jalloh raised above his defender and emphatically headed the ball past the Lynx goalkeeper for the score late in the first half.

Hagerstown added a second goal in the 68th minute when freshman forward, Bryce Block (18), connected on the end of a low cross from freshman midfielder, Owen Wood (11).  Block scored again when Mejia found him over the top of the Lynx defense, sprinting past his defender, to finish in the bottom corner.  Moments later, the Clear Spring native completed his hat trick, pushing the lead to 4-0, when Mejia layed off a pass to Block at the top of the box, who struck low past the keeper at the bottom left corner.

The Hawks conceded twice, late in the match, bringing the final score to 4-2. Freshman goalkeeper Christian Blazes finished with 2 saves.

Hagerstown travels to Prince George's CC tomorrow to face off against the Owls at 5:00 p.m.
