Hagerstown, Md. - The Hagerstown Community College (9-7-0) men's soccer team rallied from a two goal deficit to remain undefeated at home, as the Hawks defeated CCBC-Catonsville 4-3 in MDJUCO action.

In the 4th, freshman Jonah Smith struck a volley from 18 yards out, but the Cardinal keeper made a tip save to keep the ball out of the net. Just two minutes later Catonsville would net the first goal on the afternoon. The Cardinals would attack down the left side and slip a ball across the box before a Catonsville player would slide and hit the ball into the goal past sophomore goalkeeper Adam Carrier.

In the 24th minute, the Cardinals would extend their lead, when a knockdown off a free kick would fall to a Catonsville player who would hit the ball far post past Carrier.

The Hawks chipped away at the lead in the 29th minute when freshman Leland Creadick played a long ball which caused the Catonsville goalkeeper to come off his line. Smith was able to get to the ball before the keeper could make a save and ended up tapping the ball in the net for his team leading eighth goal of the year.

Hagerstown would tie the game up just before halftime when freshman Jusseth Velazquez beat two defenders before playing the ball to teammate Bradley Coblentz. Coblentz would take a shot but the ensuing rebound would fall to Velazquez who followed up for the 2-2 tie.

The Hawks came out of halftime with renewed energy and looked to take the lead in the 60th minute when freshman Akheem Riley (Kingston, Jamaica/Thomas Johnson) picked out sophomore Bobby Matusek, but his shot would go over the crossbar and out of danger.

HCC finally broke the deadlock in the 68th minute, when freshman Yusuf Bodirov assisted on a goal to Smith. Bodirov would hit a 35 yard cross that Smith struck on a diving header and the ball sailed into the far corner of the goal.

In the 76th minute the Hawks made it 4-2 when Velazquez slipped a through ball into Riley who was able to finesse a shot far post past the Cardinal goalkeeper.

Catonsville would draw one back in the 79th minute when a Cardinal player hit a bending shot from 20 yards out that was just out of the reach of Carrier.

Hagerstown would hold on for the remaining eleven minutes, to extend their home unbeaten streak to seven straight games. Carrier would make seven saves and Hawks would out shoot the Cardinals 16-13.

HCC returns to action on October 11 when they travel to Chesapeake Community College for a 3:00pm kickoff.
