Hagerstown Defeats Patrick Henry Community College

Martinsville, Va. - Hagerstown Community College sophomore Matt Suddith scored the game winning goal to give the Hawks the 3-2 win over Patrick Henry Community College.

HCC (3-1-0, 1-0-0)  put pressure on the Patriots in the 17th minute when freshman Jonah Smith took a shot from 20 yards out that forced the PHCC keeper to make an early save. The Hawks would get on the board in the 22nd minute when freshman Leland Creadick attacked the end line and drove the ball across the Patriot box, where a PHCC defender ricocheted it into their own net.

The Patriots would need just 30 seconds though to even the score as they would attack through the Hawk midfield and eventually find a wide open player in the box who placed the ball past sophomore keeper Adam Carrier.

Hagerstown would regain the lead in the 30th minute when Smith found freshman Jusseth Velazquez at the top of the PHCC box. Velazquez would make one move to get around a Patriot defender before slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.

In the 61st minute, Velazquez would again attack the Patriot defense, but would be fouled in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Suddith would step up and net his second penalty kick and the eventual game winning goal.

PHCC would make one last attack and bring the game to 3-2, when they placed a shot far post in the 82nd minute.

Carrier would finish the game with six saves, while the Hawks outshot the Patriots 16-9.

HCC returns to action September 10 when they travel to MDJUCO opponent Prince George's for a 6:00pm kickoff.
