Jennings honored following Scotland Campus sweep

Hagerstown Community College had much to celebrate on Saturday, as the scheduled doubleheader with Scotland Campus was combined with the Spring Athletics Alumni Mixer, bringing players, coaches, families, and alumni together and blending the past with the present in Hawks Baseball.

Isaiah Reed and Todd Stocks combined on the mound in the opener, holding the Knights to one run off of five hits in the 5-1 win.  The Hawks offense combined for a total of 10 hits, with TJ Kalagher and Josh Clapsaddle each earning two hits a piece.  Game two went a total of five innings with the Hawks winning 12-0.  Corey Walters went three for three with five RBIs, and  Michael Hawbaker got the win on the mound, allowing four hits and striking out six.

Following the games, people gathered for the Spring Athletic Alumni Mixer, sponsored by the Hawk Athletics Boosters and the HCC Office of College Advancement.  Head Baseball Coach Scott Jennings was honored by both the state of Maryland and Washington County for his ongoing 22-year coaching tenure, reaching the April 11, 2019 Hagerstown CC 600 wins milestone, reaching 1000 career wins on March 1, 2020, and coaching a 25 game winning streak last season, from March 20 to April 23, 2021.  Several past players were in attendance to share in the moment with Coach Jennings.

Jennings is an alumnus of HJC/HCC, graduating in 1978 with an associate degree in business administration. He was a student athlete, playing both baseball and basketball for the Hawks. He has coached two Region 20 Championship teams, one Eastern District Champion, and reached third place in the 2008 NJCAA DI Baseball World Series.  In 2019, the Hawks were second in the Maryland JUCO, and are current reigning 2021 Maryland JUCO champions.
