Jennings reaches 600 wins at HCC

Hagerstown Community College coach Scott Jennings reached 600 career victories with the Hawks in a doubleheader sweep of Garrett College on Thursday.

Jennings, who took over at HCC in the 2001 season, is eight wins shy of 1,000 for his career.

In the opener Thursday, Hagerstown scored five runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead and held off a late rally by Garrett College, which scored three runs in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Brock Smith (4-1) fired five innings of three-hit ball with seven strikeouts, Josh Menders had three hits and an RBI, Branden Lynch had two hits and an RBI, Enrique Morales had two RBIs and Steven Ricketts recorded the last two outs with the tying-run on base to pick up his fourth save.

In the second game, Lynch and Spencer Martin each had three hits and two RBIs, Evan Marushak had two hits and two RBIs and Andrew Mathias had two RBIs. Dylan Reid (5-2) scattered five hits across five innings with two runs allowed for the Hawks (31-10), who opened the game with five runs in the first.
