Solid Pitching paves Hawks sweep of the College of Southern MD

LA PLATA, Md. — Brock Smith (3-0) pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead Hagerstown Community College in a five-inning win over College of Southern Maryland in the opener of a doubleheader sweep Tuesday.

In the first game, HCC led 2-1 before opening it up with six runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. Josh Menders had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs, Branden Lynch had two hits and two RBIs, Robbie Houck had two hits and an RBI and Andrew Mathias had two hits.

In the second game, Lynch (1-0) pitched five innings and combined with Dylan Reid and Josh Colliflower on a three-hit shutout. Nate Cotton had two hits, including a solo homer in the first, Menders had two hits, including a solo homer in the third, and Houck and Jaden Weida each had two RBIs for the Hawks (18-7).
