Hawks sweep Bay College to wrap up Vero Beach

VERO BEACH, Fla. — Brock Smith (1-0) pitched five innings of two-hit, shutout ball with eight strikeouts to lead Hagerstown Community College past Bay College in the opener of a doubleheader sweep as Hagerstown wrapped up its Florida trip on Saturday.

In the opener, Enrique Morales hit a three-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Hagerstown a 6-1 lead. Robbie Houck, Austin Moser and Andrew Mathias had two hits each, and Steven Ricketts picked up his second save of the season, pitching two innings and allowing one earned run.

In the nightcap, Hagerstown scored seven runs in the sixth to break open an 8-8 tie. Nate Cotton had four hits, including a solo homer, and four RBIs. Moser had two hits and three RBIs, Spencer Martin had three hits and and RBI, Evan Marushak had two hits and two RBIs, Houck had two doubles and an RBI, and Josh Menders had two hits.

Ryan Greene (2-1) pitched 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief to pick up the win for the Hawks (10-3), who have won nine out of their last 10 games.
